Tokyo Game Show 2008

Some moments I captured there. Time runs fast at Tokyo Game Show 2008! Costume players were most interesting and for some masks people actually lined up to take photos.

Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight

Pretty interesting exhibition. Booklet I received at entrance said it is Asia’s Biggest International Art Event. Everywhere could feel very relax and democratic atmosphere. I spent most of time in visual arts hall, soaking into colors and shapes of this wild art event.

Tokyo Motor Show 2007

This was most crowded exhibition I have ever been in Japan. Big crowd already formed in station and it took around 5-7 minutes just to get down from platform.

Exhibition was organized in all huge halls of Makuhari Messe plus exhibits, test courses outside. Mostly people concentrated in hall where Japanese cars were displayed. When I appeared there, I was pushed and thorn to various sides, because people were moving all directions and I just somehow managed to swim in the sea of peoples according to trajectory of Brown particle movements. It was a little more space and air in hall where were European and American cars. Some people came with small children, but I doubt that they could see anything and parents have to keep them on hands for safety reasons.

At Tokyo Motor Show were exhibitors from 11 countries, although I spotted only those car companies, which are already selling in Japan. Exhibitors put up some shows, which usually involved movies on big screens (you could also see them in CEATEC exhibition as well). I think Volkswagen show was the best in this exhibition. I hear people going “ahhh” at times and must say – Volkswagen surprised me. They also allowed people to sit inside and touch all their cars. Staff were holding big files with data about Volkswagen cars and were ready to explain everything. Good job, Volkswagen!

Japanese car makers put up video plus girls’ shows. They also had cars on display which were slowly turning on round disc. Speakers above respective car were blasting sounds of extreme overdrive gear changing.

Volvo put emphasis on safety and they also got old Volvo car on display, which was very nice. Volvo was also only foreign company in hall for trucks, buses and bikes. Truck companies organized driver seat tryouts for those who wanted.

Anyway I expected a little more from exhibitors – more interesting entertainment, shows, something creative etc.

CEATEC 2007

CEATEC (Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies) exhibition is everything about electronics, computers, television, robots, cables, connectors, mobile phones etc. Seems this years topic was television. Every self respected company displayed various size television sets. There was also possible to watch 3D television with special glasses. Advertisement in that booth said that they will be broadcasting 3D TV from 1st December, 2007. Bigger booths organized movie shows on large screens about their vision of future technologies, as you can see in video one from Fujitsu.

This year, there were also some new robots like web cam robot from Speecys, service robot from Fujitsu and parapara dancing robot. Murata boy, which went cycling in CEATEC 2006, did not learn new tricks for this exhibition and just cycled straight uphill. Although, he now has more brothers.

JATA World Travel Fair 2007

One of greatest travel fairs. Walking around there is like traveling around the world. Very good place to see travel marketing efforts of every country. This year's motto was "旅行の力をチャージしよう", which literally means "Lets charge our travel power". Don't ask me what is travel power, but charge has the same meaning as to fill-up, bring to full etc.

When entering exibition vistors were greeted with big board like in airports. Exibition was large and located in three halls in two floors - top for Asia, Japan and lower floor for other countries.

Booths and exibition spaces were colorfuly decoraded. Middle East and Asian countries impressed with lights and smart appearance.

Many countries brought dancers and singers to Japan. Some hired local people to wear national dress or in other promotional activities. Many of Japanese visitors were ready to speak English.

CEATEC Japan 2006

Went to see some robots at CEATEC 2006 (Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies). Old video, but I did some new editing.

Makuhari messe is built on reclaimed land in Chiba prefecture. Station and walkways can get really crowded days when popular exhibitions are held - like CEATEC, Tokyo Game Show etc.

There was a lot of things from consumer electronics, in which I was not so much interested. Some companies held robot demostrations. First, I filmed robot who can walk on stairs, then communication robot. I tried to speak with that robot, but lady in the booth gave me list of words what that robot can understand. That robot can perform some moves and something more, but this time it was low on batteries, so it was just talking with visitors and blinking eyes.

Most interesting was robot from Murata company - robot who was driving bicycle. It could navigate also by himself on clear white road. He looks little bit like astronaunt - white color and with backpack. Very crowded at Murata booth.♫
